ちなみに解答について、キャロル自身は 1896 年版の新しい序文で
次のように書いています。
「”なぜならば、それらはいくつかの note (=ノート、音) を
生み出すことができます。
もっとも、それらは非常に flat (=平坦、単調) ですが。
そして決して後ろを前に持ってくるようなことはありません！”
しかしながら、これは単に後からの思い付きであり、
最初に考案された謎には全く答えはありませんでした」（訳は適当です）

This, however, is merely an afterthought;
the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all.)
